Michaelynn H. - Red Valley Rescue Squad
Michaelynn is a single mother of a 15-year-old son. He is an A/B honor roll student. He was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome at the age of six. She says, “He is such a bright, intelligent, and loving young man.” She recently lost her mom a week after passing her National Registry EMT and says, “She was my absolute best friend and she was so very proud of my accomplishments. It has been a challenge learning how to move forward without her. Thank goodness she married my dad; he fills some of those voids left by her passing. We are Christians; faith is a huge part our lives. Without Christ, I could not have survived the trials of my life.” Michaelynn is blessed to have 2 brothers, Chris and Joe. They live in Parkersburg, WV with most of her family,
Michaelynn’s journey started in 1997 at Cave Spring VFD. She has always been a protector of the people and loves nurturing and taking care of others. She says, “It is in my DNA.” She had completed FF1, hazmat, ropes course, and was halfway through her EMT class when her Marine Corp recruiter called to tell her that her MOS was open and she could leave for bootcamp; she had to drop her EMT class at that time. Fast forward 21 years; she decided it was time to pick up where she left off. She completed her EMT certification and is a member of Red Valley Volunteer Rescue Squad. She says, “For the first time ever, I am in a field that I am passionate about. I believe that once fire and rescue is in your blood, they are there forever.” Michaelynn is starting her paramedic program this fall. She can’t wait to further her skills, knowledge, and abilities so she can do more for her patients.
Hiking, rappelling, knitting, crocheting, camping, kayaking, fusing glass, and making jewelry are some of the hobbies that she enjoys. She would like to begin sewing and quilting as well.
