BUILDING SAFETY MONTH - MAY 2023
On Tuesday, April 18th, 2023 the Franklin County Board of Supervisors voted to proclaim the month of May as Building Safety Month. Each year, the International Code Council celebrates May as Building Safety Month. ICC encourages all localities to participate in sponsoring events pertaining to raising awareness about building safety on a personal, local and global scale.
This year’s theme is “It Starts with You”, with each week having a specific theme as listed below;
In an effort to support the new “Proclamation” in Franklin County, the Building Inspections Department will offer “free of charge” exterior residential deck evaluations to the citizens of the county for the month of May (By appointment only/Limit 5 per week/Month of May). The Franklin County Fire Marshal will offer “free of charge” Fire/Smoke detector check and possible replacement (By appointment only/Limit 5 per week/month of May). To schedule an appointment, contact the Inspections Department at (540) 483-3047 for deck evaluations or Public Safety at (540) 483-3091 for fire/smoke detector checks.
On Tuesday May 9th and Wednesday May 10th, the Building Official and Fire Marshal will be in the lobby of the Franklin County Government Center for a meet and greet from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. each day.
